Canthigaster epilampra (Lantern toby)

Identification

Whitish except for a darker upper back, blue streaked yellow tail, yellow around the eye with blue radiating lines, blue lines on the snout and tiny blue spots on the body.

Status

Less common.

Habitat

Indo-Pacific, Christmas islands to Micronesia, Hawaii and French Polynesia, SouthWest Japan and New Caledonia. It inhabits outer reef slopes, and can often be seen in caves or under ledges, in a depth range of 5-65 meters, often below 25 meters.

Size

Up to 12cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on mollusks, echinoderms, crabs and filamentous algae.
