Corythoichthys ocellatus (Orange-spotted pipefish)

Identification

Pale color with white bars encircling the body, orange spots all along and white speckling. The snout is thing and long.

Status

Unassessed by the IUCN Red list. It is less common than other species of pipefish.

Habitat

It is found the Central and West-Pacific, from Indonesia to Papua New Guinea and Micronesia and Australia. It lives in a depth range down to 12 meters.

Reproduction

Ovoviviparous. Males carry the eggs until they hatch.

Size

Up to 11cm.

Prey / Predation

They feed on small copepods and isopods.

Special features

The colour pattern matches that of C. schulzi, but C. schulzi doesn’t have the white speckling.
