Body is green to black, covered in green or orange tubercles, sometimes forming stripes or ridges. The head and gills are also green or orange, as well as the rhinophores and the encircling band at the base of the rhinophores.
Unassessed by the IUCN Red list, but it lives in at least 2 oceans.
It can be found in the Indian Ocean and the Indo-Pacific up to the Marshall Islands and Guam. Usually they are seen on or near ascidians, in a depth range of 10-35 meters.
They are simultaneous hermaphrodites, being able to act as male or female. Upon encounter both individuals darts their penis toward each other to induce one to act as a male and the other as the female. The victorious one to penetrate the body wall is the dominant male. After fertilization eggs are deposited on a substratum where they develop into larvae and further grow as adults.
Up to 12cm.
They feed on ascidians. Some ascidians contain toxins, which the Nembrothas utilize for their defense. When attacked the Nembrotha is able to release those toxins as a slimy mucus to fend off predators.
The color schemes of Nembrotha kubaryana is highly variable, and further study should point out whether they are all 1 species or actually several different subspecies.
