Choriaster granulatus (Granular sea star)

Identification

Short, thick arms, clusters of papillae on the body and upper portion of the arms form a blotch pattern, tan to brown or orange with lighter or darker colored arm tips.

Status

Unevaluated by the IUCN Red list, but fairly widespread in tropical waters around the Indo-Pacific.

Habitat

Indo-West Pacific and some parts of the Indian Ocean. It lives in a depth range of 0-40 meters.

Reproduction

Size

Up to 25cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on coral polyps, small invertebrates and it scavenges on dead animals.
