Siphonogorgia sp. (Cherry blossom coral)

Identification

Soft coral with a gorgonian-like appearance. The body is orange with white or yellow, star-shaped polyps. Very similar to S. godeffroyi, except for the color, and the polyps are located at the terminal branchlets as well as on the main branches. The polyps can retracted completely.

Status

Unassessed by the IUCN Red list, and uncommon.

Habitat

They can be found in the Central Indo-Pacific; Indonesia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. They grow on rocks,ledges, reef slopes, vertical walls and overhangs, in a depth range of 10-20 meters.
