Least concern according to the IUCN Red list. Fairly common in tropical waters. Population trends are unknown.
Indo-Pacific. Red Sea and East Africa to the Easter Islands in Southeast Asia. Shallow coral or rocky reefs down to 30 meters.
Oviparous breeding (laying eggs). They show distinct pairing during the breeding process.
Up to 42cm.
Juveniles feed on small crustaceans and polychaete worms, adults feed on larger crustaceans, molluscs and also polychaete worms.
It buries in sand at night for protection. It is also referred to as blue-spotted wrasse.
