Comaster schlegelii (Schlegel’s feather star)

Identification

Large and bushy feather star with 70-90 arms, commonly orange to yellow to green. Pinnules extend four planes, comb teeth near the base and commonly 11-17 cirri.

Status

Unassessed by the IUCN Red list. It is considered to be common, but identification is often tentative.

Habitat

Known from the West Pacific, it can be found on coral and hard substrate.

Reproduction

Size

Up to 26 cm.

Prey / Predation

They are filter feeders. To catch food particles they extend their arms into the water column.
