Bothus mancus (Peacock flounder)

Identification

Gray to brown with blue spots and circles, eyes widely spaced and lower eye in front of the upper eye. Males have elongated pectoral fin rays.

Status

Fairly common, but difficult to spot.

Habitat

Indo-Pacific: in tropical waters, from the Red Sea and South Africa to Hawaii and Easter Island, north to southern Japan and south to Lord Howe Island. Eastern Pacific: Revillagigedo, Clipperton and Cocos islands, in a depth range of 3-150 meters.

Reproduction

Size

Up to 51cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on fishes, crabs and shrimp. They hunt during the night but are also active during the day.
