Aplysia dactylomela (Spotted sea hare)

Identification

Large sea hare with shades of pale grey, green and brown, marked with large black rings, often with dark reticulated lines.

Status

Common.

Habitat

Circumtropical. They are usually found in shallow waters and tide pools, or sandy/rocky substrates. They are also found feeding on seagrass beds. During the day they hide under rocks and in crevices. Found in a depth range of 0-40 meters.

When disturbed, this sea hare can discharge a cloud of purple ink.
