Acanthurus sohal (Sohal surgeonfish)

Identification

Fairly large fish, light blue/grey color with narrow horizontal black bands, black fins with blue edges, and yellow tail spine.

Status

Locally common

Habitat

Red Sea to Persian Gulf and the Western Indian Ocean. Commonly on outer reefs or reefplateaus, usually in currents, in a depth range of 0-20 meters.

Reproduction

Reproduction due to spawning and fertilization shortly after.

Size

Up to 40cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on a few different kinds of algae including Sargassum.

Special features

They are territorial.
