Cuthona sibogae (Siboga cuthona)

Identification

Lilac to purple body with yellow cerata tips and slender rhinophores. It is small and hence more difficult to find. You will most likely find it by looking for Sertularella hydroids it feeds on.

Status

Unassessed by the IUCN Red list, but widely spread throughout the Indian Ocean and IndoPacific.

Habitat

East Africa to the Marshall Islands, Fiji and Japan. It is usually on shallow reefs and on or nearby hydroids, in a depth range of 5-15 meters.

Reproduction

Size

Up to 3,5cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on hydroids (of the genus Sertularella).

Special features

There are over 100 species within this genus living in the Indo-Pacific many of which have remained undescribed.
