Epinephelus erythrurus (Cloudy grouper)

Identification

Dark grey color with irregular pale spots and blotches randomly joined to forming a maze-like pattern.

Status

Data Deficient (no assessment of extinction risk has been made).

Habitat

Indo-West Pacific: Pakistan, India including Laccadive (Lakshadweep) Islands, Sri Lanka, and through the larger islands of the East Indies and the Gulf of Thailand.
Inhabits areas with muddy or silty-sand bottoms.
Solitary, also found in turbid harbours and estuaries.

Reproduction

Open water/substratum egg scatterers, they don’t quard the eggs.

Max length : 45.0 cm

Prey / Predation

Cloudy groupers are solitary carnivores that hunt near the bottom usually at dusk.
