Ancylomenes magnificus (Magnificent anemone shrimp)

Identification

Translucent with blue and white claw arms curving inwards to overlap, white banding and a blotch on the abdominal hump.

Status

Unidentified by the IUCN Red list, but commonly distributed in the tropics.

Habitat

West Pacific to New Caledonia and Japan. It lives on anemones, commonly associated with (Actinostephanus haeckeli) Branching anemone and tube dwelling anemones from the Cerianthus genus.

Size

Up to 3,5cm.

Prey / Predation

They feed on plankton

Special features

Acts as a cleaner shrimp. It was formerly named Periclimenes magnificus.
