Ancylomenes luteomaculatus (Yellow-spotted anemone shrimp)

Identification

Translucent with yellow to golden and orange to reddish patches on the sides, yellow, red and white saddle marking on the abdominal hump, white claw arms with purple banding.

Status

Unidentified by the IUCN Red list, but commonly distributed in the tropics.

Habitat

West Pacific and Japan. It lives on tube dwelling anemones such as Pachycerianthus sp. and several other species.

Reproduction

Size

Up to 3,5cm.

Prey / Predation

It feeds on (zoo)plankton.

Special features

Acts a cleaner shrimp. It was formerly named Periclimenes luteomaculatus, and has only very recently been described (2010) as Ancylomenes luteomaculatus.
