Ecsenius frontalis (Smoothfin blenny)

Identification

Body coloration of 3 basic color patterns: uniformly brown, dark-brown or black but pigmentless posterior of dark caudal fin base, or generally brownish with darker stripe along dorsal area.

Status

Least Concern (LC).

Habitat

Western Indian Ocean: known only from Red Sea, including gulfs of Aqaba and Suez, and the westernmost part of the Gulf of Aden.
The Smoothfin blenny is reef-associated, adults are found among corals and Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.

Reproduction

Oviparous and distinct pairing.
Eggs are demersal and adhesive and are attached to the substrate.

Size

Max length : 8.0 cm.

Prey / Predation

Primarily feed off of plants, including benthic algae and weeds.
